One Frame at a Time

My name is Sammy, and this is my story...

Feel free to do and ask whatever you'd like...
I'll try to be nice, but I can't promise anything...
Quick scan and experiment with FujiFilm FP 100.The image on the left was recovered from a process that I will later go into detail and the image on the right was the actual FujiFilm Peelback Image (scanned).I didn’t get a chance to actually play with detail and levels on the scans, just a quick import, but the difference between the two is pretty clear and pretty cool to see…

— after a recent setback when my harddrive, which contained digital files of this series, failed and deleted some important files…i recently though of the entire purpose of this project…when i set out, i purposely shot this project on 120 film with the intention of using the digital files as a backup…i then edited those digital files but never really worked on the film files…maybe it was a sign, but whatever it was, i just rescanned the FujiFilm Instant Images and compiled them together as a contact sheet for myself…i’m actually quite impressed with the amount of work involved and the support i got from my friends…i have three slots left to complete a series of 30 images…i think i just might do it, only on film since my digital files are non-existant now…

— my typical editing workstation…test prints, final prints, and every note written on my test prints just feels right at home…PS. it’s always good to write notes on your test prints, don’t be afraid, that’s why we make them, to edit and correct…

— this was probably one of my more fun portraits…not only did i shoot a tarantula (of which i had to conquer my fear of spiders by holding it before the photoshoot) but the surrealism aspect behind the photograph allowed me to add a whole new element of unnatural and uncommon things that are found together…by the way, photographing bubbles was wicked fun!also, thank you to NASA’s Deep Space Telescope for photographing such beautiful stellar worlds that added a whole different element to this photograph.

— during the Spring of 2012 I shot a project with a 4x5 camera in my Fashion Photography Class at RIT.  The interesting part wasn’t so much the use of the camera for a fashion project, but a process that I discovered today, a year after the project.
an image that was a happy accident that has really surprised me in its Pictorialism result…

— if you have ever gotten the opportunity to shoot on FujiFilm Instant Peel Film you must understand that the film is sensitive to light and temperature…this shoot was done at Midnight on March 20th in Rochester…which if you know Rochester weather, it gets pretty cold…needless to day, it was about 20 degrees outside, and the film was unable to develop properly…so after about 5 minutes of developing, the film still turned out to be a little bit yellow in tonality..thanks to a little color management, the image was saved and returned to it’s proper color balanced state…

— if you must flüg: Scheimpflüg…there are certain things you can “fake” with digital images, but there are some things that cannot be done without the use of a 4x5 camera…in my opinion, Scheimpflüg is one of those things…there’s a certain feel, tenderness, and romantic notion that comes along with film and it’s process…

— when the sun shines in Rochester and you take your time to walk back from the Student Life Center @ RIT to the Riverknoll Apartments and appreciate the little instances you see, you notice small signs that tell you that you are exactly where you need to be at exactly the right time and that you need to see something at exactly the right moment…

i’ve walked by those bricks dozens of times and i’ve never seen that quote on the Quarter Mile, “Enjoy Life Now, Work Is Harder” and i’ve never really seen the sun cast that outline like that on that metal sign…

Divine Intervention, that’s all that I can really come up with…it was really remarkable…
